Specimen Requirements

Container/Tube: UA preservative tube

Specimen Type: Urine - A freshly voided urine sample collected by the “clean catch” method is the specimen of choice. First morning urine yields the most meaningful results.

Specimen Volume: 7 mL from a random urine collection

Note: 1- Please ensure that specimens are labeled correctly. Two patient identifiers are required.

Note:  2- Specimens should be delivered to the laboratory as soon as possible after collection or kept refrigerated, away from light.

Note 1: Urines, kept at room temperature, are stable for two hour.

Note 2: If the urine specimen is not processed within two hour after collection, cap the container tightly and store at 2 - 8° C.

INTENDED USE:

Urinalysis is performed to aid in the diagnosis of disease, to monitor wellness, to monitor the progress of disease and to monitor therapy.

Specimen Stability:

  • Urines, kept at room temperature, are stable for two hour.
  • If the urine specimen is not processed within two hour after collection, cap the container tightly and store at 2 - 8° C.

Reasons for Rejection of Specimen/Cancellation of Testing:

  1. Specimens improperly collected or stored.
  2. Unlabeled or mislabeled specimens.
  3. Hematuria
  4.  Gray vacutainers cannot be used for urinalysis testing.
  5. QNS specimen
