Specimen Requirements
Container/Tube: Three (3) Light blue-top (3.2% sodium citrate) tube
Specimen Volume: Full 4.5-mL tube of whole blood
Collection Instructions: Immediately invert tube and mix gently 8 times. Clotted blood is not acceptable. Avoid hemolysis.
Note: 1. Patient should not be receiving Coumadin® for at least 14 days and heparin for at least 48 hours prior to draw.
2. Label specimen appropriately.

Reflex Information:
Initial testing may include activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) and dilute Russell’s viper venom time (DRVVT). If any of these results are significantly prolonged, additional testing may include thrombin time, factor VIII, DRVVT mixing, or confirmation studies.
