Specimen Requirements

Container/Tube: Aerobic culture swabs in sterile culture transport tubes

Specimen Volume: 2 swabs-1 from lower vagina and 1 from rectum

Collection Instructions: Collect specimen and place swabs in sterile culture transport tubes.

Note: 1. Culture should not be collected by speculum examination.

2. Spermicidal agents and feminine powder sprays interfere with assay and should not be used prior to collection.

3. Label tubes with patient’s name (first and last), medical record number, and date and actual time of draw.

4. Specimen source is required.
