Specimen Requirements

Container/Tube: Sterile culture swabs in sterile culture transport tubes

Specimen Volume: 2 swabs of lower vagina and rectum

Collection Instructions: 

Note: 1. Culture should not be collected by speculum examination.

2. Spermicidal agents and feminine powder sprays interfere with assay and should not be used prior to collection.

3. Label tube with patient’s name (first and last), medical record number, and date and actual time of collection.

4. Specimen source is required.
