Test Code CHLAMGC-PAP Cytology, Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae Gynecological Pap
Specimen Requirements
Container/Tube: Liquid-based cytology preservative vial - Thin Prep only, broom/brush device.
Specimen Volume: Adequate broom sampling of cervix
Collection Instructions: Collect specimen as follows:
1. Insert central bristles of broom into endocervical canal deep enough to allow shorter bristles to fully contact ectocervix.
2. Push gently and rotate broom in a clockwise direction 5 times.
3. Rinse broom in cytology preservative vial by pushing broom into bottom of vial 10 times, forcing bristles apart. As a final step, swirl broom vigorously to further release material.
4. Discard collection device (broom/brush).
5. Tighten cap so torque line on cap passes torque line on vial.
Note: 1. Label vial with patient’s name (first and last), medical record number, date and actual time of collection, and cytology case number. Unlabeled collection vials will be rejected.
2. Specimen source is required.
